Tomlin Trophy – Round 2

WEST INDIAN CAVALIERS II             164 for 8

THORESBY COLLIERY                        168 for 2

Now I know how Mark Thatcher felt!!  Following Nige to a game of cricket has to compare with wandering around Shirebrook dressed as a member of the Village People!!

Pointless and extremely dangerous!!

Nige dragged our convoy of cars around
Nottingham for an hour, his best move being taking us all up a one way street the wrong way!!
At
2.00pm the only players at the ground were Chesh, Lee and Glen and although Glen is very fast in the field I do doubt his ability to keep the run rate down with Chesh bowling, Lee keeping wicket and Glenn covering the other 9 fielding positions all on his own!!

Eventually after being cautioned for Kerb Crawling (everyone escaped with a caution other than Billy as it wasn’t his first offence) we found the ground.

After the embarrassment of Saturday’s performance then this was a welcome return to form for Thoresby, not many sides would have coped with the moral shattering defeat at Worksop and the loss at short notice of Pete ‘Legend in his own Lifetime’ Scott to come back and win through to the Qtr finals of the Tomlins.

Chesh lost the toss and the Cavaliers decided to bat, most Thoresby players expected the combination of dodgy knees and 17 overs the day before to be to much for 57  year old Cheshy to bowl again for months but once again he rolled back the years and steamed in to bowl an accurate 8 over spell uphill.
Say bowled the opener and other than a fine innings by Monty Douglas then Thoresby contained well, all bowlers were accurate and a special mention must go to Dave ‘Duck man’ Evans who bowled a tight 7 over spell.

Fielding was of a high standard and this was highlighted by Ben Marson’s excellent run out of danger man Douglas.

Chasing a moderate total on an excellent wicket then Thoresby were always going to be favourites if they got a good start, Chesh and Jonno put on over 120 with Jonno playing perhaps one of his best innings of the season and Chesh smashing the ball to all parts for an unbeaten 90, we won an enjoyable game against good natured opposition easily by 8 wickets with 13 overs to spare.

This could have been a potential banana skin but once again Thoresby are on the march to the Tomlins cup final, unfortunately for us to win the cup we will have to win twice at Worksop which isn’t one of our happy hunting grounds!!!!!!!
