BLIDWORTH                        160 for 5      (Ritchie Gibbons 67)

THORESBY COLLIERY      163 for 4      (Martin Cheshire 84, Jonathan Hill 32 n.o.)

Thoresby through to Tomlins final….again!!!!!

Thoresby’s victory against Blidworth was comprehensive.

Disciplined bowling and fielding restricted the visitors to 160.  Whilst Hill, Lippeat and Evans bowled with precision, the pick of the bowlers was Saylesh Patel.  His 8 overs cost only 8 runs!!!  It was a phenomenal display of accurate pace bowling.  He found his rhythm from his first ball and didn’t look back.  The pressure that he applied set the ideal foundation for the whole innings.  Blidworth were continually behind the eight ball, and Patel must be commended for his performance.

Thoresby replied diligently.  Martin Cheshire is back in the runs.  His 84 was a combination of brutal strokeplay accompanied by flickers of genius.  He toyed with the bowlers at times – forcing them to pitch it short and then murdering the ball past mid on for four.  Hill came in and steered his side past the total, with the support of Willis.

It must be noted that the conditions towards the end of the match were ideal for cricket.  No matter whether one was batting or bowling or fielding, it was a serene atmosphere in which to experience the game.  Why? - Because the setting sun produced a gentle ray of light that illuminated the whole ground as well as nearby fields.  It was kind of magical, kind of mystical, kind of one of those moments where you just sigh and think ‘life is pretty darn good!’.  The participants enjoyed the match and the post match drinks.  Both teams enjoying each other’s company in the Thoresby club house.  The game was played in the right spirit.  It is heartening to know that such performances can still take place.

And so Thoresby now stroll to the final at Worksop on September 12.  I suspect a fascinating spectacle awaits.
