THORESBY (0)   121 ao

RADCLIFFE (4)   121-2

On arrival at the ground we were greeted by a heavy shower that led to a 10 minute delay of the start time. Nige then won the toss and we settled back to watch the strong upper order post a large total against a youthful attack. But as happens so many times things did not go quite to plan. Dougie Bird set the collapse in motion when he gave Jonesey out after one of the opposition sneezed loudly, at least it gave the young lads a good laugh. Next to go was Ben who hit a full toss straight at the fielder. This brought Tuffers to the wicket at another of his many ex clubs. He must have been in a hurry to get away again as waft followed waft untill he found a fielder. Jono who had looked in good touch then decided to walk across and try and hit the ball to leg, only to get bowled. You know it is not your day when the fastest runner then gets run out as Glen did. Lee also went cheaply to leave us 60-7. Nige and Chesh then tried to repair the dam! age and where going well untill Chesh allowed one of the fielder stupid comments to break his concentration and was bowled. Callum then helped Nige take the score up to 121 before being caught trying for quick runs in the penultimate over. Nige was the last wicket to fall with 3 balls left.

In reply Radcliffe’s openers were soon in their stride as Jono and Chesh both struggled to find their line. Both were replaced and Jonesey soon struck. Nige at the other end bowled tight without any luck. Jonesey then struck again but it was to no avail as Radcliffe ran out easy winners in 28 overs. Ironically the fielder who made the personal comments to Chesh played a superb innings for 70 no, it was just a pity his cricketing ability was not matched by respect for others and the game.

This was a very poor performance , with a number of senior players playing poor shots.
