Newark (4) 198-8

Another awful
performance against an under strength Newark team.
Nige lost the toss and Newark had no hesitation in electing
to bat, (especially as their captain and opening bat had to go at 5.30pm). Jonesy and Jono opened
up and although they bowled the odd good ball the Newark openers scored freely. Jonesy
was very unlucky with an edge that flew close to slip, the next ball disappeared
for six. It was going to be that type of day!!!.
Nige
replaced Jono and although bowling tight yet again had no luck making the
breakthrough. At the other end Lee was also unlucky when Billy dropped a fairly
simple catch. Callum and Billy were then introduced and totally transformed the
innings as Newark 150-0 were soon reduced to
198-8 at the close. The pair took seven wickets between them.
In reply Ben and Jonesy opened up and after a nice boundary Ben was clean
bowled by a good ball. Things then turned a little ugly as Newark’s opening bowler
repeatedly bowled bouncers at young Lee (think he was a lucky man, dad Steve
was not around). Lee was then bowled by the first ball in his half. Jonesy then
completed a miserable weekend by getting out to yet another bouncer. More
wickets began to tumble and with the "bouncer kid " still bowling Nige
declared to prevent Luke from any harm as the game was lost anyway.
Much as I realise short bowling is part of the game of cricket, I do think repeatedly
bowling it to kids in a Sunday game and then going barmy when you get them out
is overstepping the mark.
