The first game of the Newark league season started in the same way as the previous season with many last minute phone calls due to Mr Roberts deciding not to bother turning up and Liam’s mystery leg injury.

Fortunately the toss was won and Tuffers and Jono opened up. Runs came quickly with Pete playing some quality shots. Jono was the first to go in the eighth over. Scott helped Pete add further runs before Pete was bowled by a really good ball, Scott followed soon after. Shailesh was soon into full stride, stroking the ball to all parts. Nige was a little more attacking than the previous day but soon fell to a smart run out. Paul joined Say and continued the good work until Say was bowled going for one big hit too many. Chesh played some very good shots before finding a fielder who could catch. Young Lee got a snorter first ball which brought the senior pro Mick to the wicket on the hat trick ball. " he ain’t got a chance of a hat trick " were Mick’s words as he marched out to the wicket. And so right he was, in fact Mick played a few nice shots before Paul was last out to end the innings.

The sight of Callum returning from London greeted us at tea time and his contribution would later prove vital. Madni started off well with young Lee struggling to find his line bowling down the hill. Chesh at the other end was bowling well without any luck. The introduction of Hill worked a treat with him soon taking two wickets. At the other end Tuffers was starting to spin a web getting star player and ex Thoresby man Zed out. Callum replaced Hill and after a shaky start bowled well under pressure and took a vital wicket. Some lusty blows from the lower order threatened to take Madni home before Say and Jono returned to bowl with great control at the death to gain a very close win.
