This was a tremendous
result for the Sunday team, considering they were reduced to nine men.
This was the game where Jonesey did the lot - captain, score runs, win toss, bowl
and last but not least make the tea (although thanks to Ben for also helping).
On winning the toss Jonesey’s first job was to call Nige
and inform him what time he would be needed (he was on opposition land with the
kwik cricket team). A shaky start was made with Ben,
Ian and Jamie all falling cheaply. Nige in fact
turned up to be told to hurry up as he was in next only to be shoved out by
"Mini Me Bill" but more of that later. Jono
and Jonesey batted superbly to put on well over a
hundred before, with thoughts of having to mash the tea, Jonesey
fell just after he had not reached fifty!!!.
This brought Bill to
the wicket. Now, if I can describe his batting and first ball dismissal on Saturday
you would think he had never held a bat before; but today was a different day
and he played shots all round the wicket and remained undefeated. Jono fell near the end and Nige
stayed with Bill to close the innings.
In reply it was the combination of Nige and Hutch bowling together that turned the game,
coupled with outstanding fielding that saw the game go Thoresby’s
way as Fardon got well behind the run rate. Bill and Jono came on and all but finished the job before Lee and
Ben had decent bowling practice. Jonesey finished the
day off with the last wicket which was rather fitting.
We displayed great team spirit in this
game, well led by new captain Jonesey. This is the
type of effort needed by all three teams to achieve their respective goals. As
a club we all need to realy pull together now more
than ever.
