After Saturday’s best first eleven performance, the Sunday boys also produced
their best display to beat top of the table Caythorpe.
Nige again lost the toss at the picturesque ground and Caythorpe had no
hesitation in batting first, once a brief shower had moved away. Say and Callum
opened up and bowled well without any luck. The bowling was then changed
regularly; special mention must go to Lee who had a couple of catches dropped
and was back on form, swinging the ball and bowling with great accuracy. Tony
finally got the breakthrough to end a very good opening partnership of 103. Jonesey
then picked up a wicket.
The game was then turned by the introduction of Jono for the
last five overs from one end. He again picked up five wickets for the second
successive day, four of which were bowled making seven for the weekend. Chesh
also picked up a wicket and from a very strong position Caythorpe only reached
a modest total on what is a very high scoring ground.
In reply Chesh opened up with Ben. Despite Ben’s early dismissal Chesh was soon
hitting the ball to all parts of the ground with his usual ease. Say had joined
him and he too was soon into his stride before being bowled when well set. Jonesey
fell cheaply to a blinding legside catch by the keeper and Jamie and Glen also
followed. The big blow was then the fall of Chesh which left well over a
hundred to get with only four wickets left. Jono and Nige started cautiously
but then began to play their shots and once they got on top the two quite
easily reached the target with two overs to spare.
