THORESBY (4)             277-4

BOTTESFORD (0)         186-9

We arrived to find a wonderful village with a superb cricket ground; the day was made even better by Jonesey winning the toss as this was the hottest day of the year.

Ben and Chesh opened and made a cautious start before ben nicked one to the keeper, this brought Jonsey to the crease and possibly his best ever innings for the club. He started steadily and played himself in before unleashing a barrage of sixes, twelve in all. People on the bowling green had to take evasive action several times and the pavilion roof also took a battering. But without a doubt his best shots were the straight sixes which seemed to go further each time. He had a small wobble when he got to the nervous ninetys but this was a suberb innings. Chesh was the second wicket to fall caught on the boundry before Jonseys innings finally came to an end also caught on the boundry. Jono was going well untill he was unfortunatly run out. Rob gained some valued batting practice and played some excellent shots and remained unbeaten with Nige at the end.

In reply Bottesford decided to attack and after a few lusty blows both Callum and John got a wicket to stem the flow of runs. John then followed this with two more wickets in quick succesion to rip the heart out of Bottesfords reply. After this the bowling was rotated and everyone bowled reasonably well. Jono got the next three wickets and Nige also took a wicket before callum returned to take the final one. During the latter stages of this game great entertainment was provided first by the introduction of Robs assortment of buffet fair bowling, although in fairness he was deprived of his first wicket of the season by John DARK SHADES Edger dropping a catch due to the sun going in!!!!. But Johns part in proceedings was about to take another turn. Picture the scene a strugling Robbie reduced to a short run due to fatigue finally manages to land one on the cut bit and the batsman plays a false shot, up goes the ball john starts to get under i! t but as he runs he can see the umpire is in the way, still he continues in the knowledge the umpire will move out the way. But unfortunatly he did not and John hit him at full force. There was then a field full of people in fits of laughter and it was a good while before play could be restarted and then everyone had big grins on there faces. For the record the umpire was ok and John dropped the catch. Some of the more cynical people would wonder wether the same umpires no ball call which deprived John of his forth wicket had anything to do with the incident!!!!!!!.

This was a fine win that should mean we play in this league again next season. Which with so many really nice grounds like this one today is a great prospect.
