ECKINGTON II (12) 212 for 5
THORESBY COLLIERY II (10) 145 for 5
The seconds
were badly hit once again with unavailabilities and probably fielded their
weakest side of the season. In the half hour leading up to the start chaos
reigned as Brian found out someone he had roped in had decided to drop out
which resulted in Hutchy being despatched
to fetch Luke. Ian arrived ten minutes before the start en route to Worksop with a new player !! - Jamie
Whiteside, who must have wondered what he had walked into. Having been
quickly introduced to those who were there we took the field with eight players
as Chatt was due to arrive at
Stuart
opened downhill and in Hutchy's absence Brian bowled
uphill. Hutchy and Luke duly arrived
a couple of overs in and we were up to ten. The Eckington openers Kay and Long settled in - Kay latching on
to anything over pitched and Long after a quiet start began to find the legside boundary. Hutch replaced Stuart but despite
struggling with the slope managed to break the opening stand on 73
when a leading edge went to debutant Jamie at point. Stuart then replaced
Hutch who in turn replaced Brian at his more favoured
end and was immediately rewarded when he bowled Murchison. Nicholas quickly
followed LBW to Stuart. Skipper Booth joined Kay and they added a quickfire 50 before Kay was run out for a hard hit 62.
With dark
clouds all around and rain in the air Godders and Stu opened up against a very keen Eckington
side. Godders was into his stride immediately and had
scored all the runs off the bat when Stu was given
out caught behind with score on 16.
By this
time Chatt had arrived and marched out in his
customary number 3 position to be greeted by opposition players who told him he
couldn't bat until number 11 as he had only just arrived. After intervention
from Bri and the Umpire it was agreed he could go in
at number 6 !! Scott joined Godders
who after his bright start was almost immediately caught at slip. 16 for 2 and in a bit of trouble. Enter the skipper who
played a superb innings of 83 finding the boundary with ease and regularity.
Scott also batted confidently hitting 24 in a stand of 93.
After
a couple of rain breaks the game ended up as a time match and it was left
to Casey and Chatt to strike the necessary
boundaries to take us past 140 and secure an extra batting point.
Despite
being up against it for much of the afternoon everyone tried hard and never let
their heads drop and were rewarded with 10
points which moved us up into second place in the table.
