GLAPWELL (20)                     116 for 9

THORESBY COLLIERY (4)    112 all out

In the lead up to this match Nottinghamshire (along with most of England) was drenched with rain.  Miraculously though, Mother Nature offered a splendid Saturday!  A royal blue sky accompanied with specks of white cloud served as the backdrop to yet another enthralling contest.

First and foremost the efforts of Paul Hughes and Nigel Birkett must be applauded for their tireless dedication.  They made sure that the covers were on and off all week, and it is because of them that we were able to play.  So on behalf of both sides I offer a humble – “thanks!!”.

In particular I suspect Billy Lippeatt was especially grateful.  These are his figures: 16 overs, 6 maidens, 20 runs, 6 wickets.  No wides.  No no balls.

It was as close to ‘perfect’ as you will ever see on a cricket pitch.  Those present should be privileged to have witnessed a master at work.  In the middle of his spell Billy bowled four wicket-maidens on the trot.  I raise the question loud and clear?  “Has this ever been done at Thoresby before?” – I doubt it.  Yes, it was a spectacle and it was fun.

We must not forget Dave Evans.  His 10 overs produced figures of 1/19 with 5 maidens.  He is back in the game and things are definitely looking good.  His aggression was firing and it was balanced with an immaculate rhythm.  Perhaps this late season surge in form might be a catalyst for seasons to come?  Who knows?

The wicket was bowler-friendly and Thoresby bowled as a team.  At one stage Glapwell were 2/91.  They finished with only 116.  Cricket is a strange game, don’t you think??

116 was an achievable target however Thoresby fell five runs short.

As you will see from the scorecard, Mr. O’Brien wrecked havoc.  He bowled non-stop for 22 overs and took 8/48.  He galloped to the wicket again and again and propelled the ball with timing and speed at the stumps.  He is much quicker than the average league bowler.  It was devastating to watch him tear apart our team.

Birkett (16) and Hill (53no) were the only batsmen to offer some form of resistance.

The season is closing and these remaining matches are of great importance.  With a little belief and a lot of determination we can ensure that the results swing our way.
